Water Security Agency - Current and Anticipated Conditions within the Spruce and Little Red River System
The current water level at Anglin Lake is 515.61m and rising; the full supply limit (F.S.L) for the reservoir is 515.42m. To address continued high inflows and lessen the rate of rise, WSA conducted an operation on May 14th, increasing outflows from 12 cubic metres per second (m3/s) to 15 m3/s.
Water levels on streams adjacent to the Spruce River (Garden River, Shell River, Sturgeon River) are continuing to decline after reaching peaks last week. The heavily forested upper reaches of the Spruce River basin have assisted in buffering peak flows but has lengthened the duration of the runoff event.
Sustained flows are expected to maintain high water levels downstream which may result in out-of-bank flooding along portions of the Spruce and Little Red River system. Note, WSA estimates effects of the operation to reach the Highway #2 bridge crossing in 1-2 days, and the Little Red River Park in 3-4 days.
WSA will continue to monitor the situation closely and will notify of any further adjustments to outflows if/when required.
